New adult education centre programme catalogue for the summer semester
The adult education centre's summer semester starts on 8 March 2021 and the new printed programme for the summer semester will be published on Monday, 15 February 2021. It is available to pick up at 37 locations in Chemnitz, including on the ground floor of the TIETZ, in the city library, in the town hall and at the citizen service centres. All distribution points can be found at www.vhs-chemnitz.de.
In its new programme, the adult education centre offers its usual wide range of courses with a balanced mix of lectures, workshops and classic course formats. These will be held in the virtual classroom at the start of the semester in March, for example many new and compact foreign language courses. "All courses that have already been held online in the current winter semester will continue virtually from March," explains Grit Bochmann, Head of the adult education centre. "As soon as on-site teaching is possible again, we will continue these courses in face-to-face classes, naturally with a hygiene concept. The same applies to the German courses."
In the summer semester, the adult education centre is also focusing on the online lecture series "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme". Experts from the fields of research and science will cover topics from history, art and culture as well as current civil society issues. A special highlight is the virtual museum tour at Munich's Museum Brandhorst on 18 March 2021.

The adult education centre's summer programme also includes numerous lectures and information evenings. With the innovative course format "#klimafit - Climate change on our doorstep", the VHS is participating in a nationwide project developed by the WWF and the Helmholtz Research Network on Regional Climate Change (REKLIM). It is aimed at people who are committed to climate protection in the Chemnitz region and want to become active together. In addition, the Adult Education Centre and Chemnitz University of Technology are addressing the current protests in the countries of Central Eastern and Eastern Europe in the online lecture "Civil society in Eastern Europe - guarantor of democracy". An expert from the Institute for European Studies sheds light on the social background and explains the role civil society plays for democracy in Eastern Europe.
All courses for which face-to-face teaching is essential will start on a staggered basis as soon as the regulations allow. These include a whole range of other foreign language courses, exercise and relaxation courses as well as many programmes in the field of art and culture. The updated course dates, which have been adapted to the new regulations, can be found on the adult education centre's website.
