Yesterday, work began on the final section to make Neumarkt accessible. The second part of the sixth construction phase (green area - see site plan) should be completed by 8 November 2024, in time for the Christmas market.

In the area between the town hall, Peek & Cloppenburg and the catering facilities on the opposite side, the cobblestones of the remaining area on Neumarkt will be removed, processed and reinstalled. The associated restrictions for residents and visitors should be kept to a minimum.
Access to the neighbouring commercial units and restaurants will be guaranteed at all times, at least from one side.

The first part of the sixth construction phase was already completed in May - before the summer events such as the Hat Festival and the Wine Festival.

With the completion of work on the sixth construction phase, the areas of the market and Neumarkt will be completely barrier-free. The city of Chemnitz is thus meeting the needs of visitors to the city centre - especially in view of the European Capital of Culture year Chemnitz 2025.

The construction company KaRo GmbH & Co KG was commissioned with the construction work. The total costs amount to around 499,000 euros.
