The next construction phase to improve the accessibility of Neumarkt will begin on Monday, 11 September. Now that the market has already been made barrier-free, the cobblestones on Neumarkt will be removed, processed and reinstalled in the remaining two sections 5 and 6 (see site plan in the appendix). The associated restrictions for residents and visitors should be kept to a minimum. Dates have been agreed with the market office and neighbours.

The work on Neumarkt, in section 5 (blue area on the site plan), will begin on 11 September and should be completed by the time the Christmas market is set up in November 2023. The tree approved by the city council will also be planted on the market during this process.

Depending on the weather, work on section 6 (green area on the site plan) will begin in the first quarter of 2024, with completion of this section planned for spring 2024.

Once work on the 6th construction phase has been completed, the market and Neumarkt areas will be completely barrier-free. This will enable the city of Chemnitz to meet the needs of visitors to the city centre - especially in view of the Capital of Culture year 2025.

The construction company KaRo GmbH & Co KG was commissioned with the construction work.
The costs amount to around 499,000 euros.
