Neumarkt continues to be remodelled barrier-free
Next construction phase has begun
Work began today on the sixth and final construction phase to improve the accessibility of Neumarkt (green area - see site plan). The work will be carried out in two sections. The first section is expected to be completed by 14 May. The second section is then expected to begin on 6 September and should be completed by 8 November 2024.
Now that the market and the first section of Neumarkt (5th construction phase, blue area - see site plan) have already been made barrier-free, the cobblestones of the remaining area on Neumarkt will be removed, processed and reinstalled. The associated restrictions for residents and visitors should be kept to a minimum.
Once the work on the 6th construction phase has been completed, the areas of the market and Neumarkt will be completely barrier-free. This will enable the city of Chemnitz to meet the needs of visitors to the city centre - especially in view of the European Capital of Culture year Chemnitz 2025.
The construction company KaRo GmbH & Co KG was commissioned with the construction work. The total costs amount to around 499,000 euros.
