Nest box building for young and old
Max Meise" campaign on 4 March, from 9 am to 3 pm, Chemnitz Nature Conservation Station
On Saturday 4 March from 9 am to 3 pm, the Environmental Agency and the Saxon Ornithologists' Association are inviting children, young people, parents and grandparents to build bird nesting boxes at the Chemnitz Nature Conservation Station, Adelsbergstraße 192. This year, in keeping with tradition, it will once again be possible to build nest boxes together on site, after only kits could be handed out in the past two years due to the coronavirus.
Entry is free of charge. The Sächsischer Ornithologen e. V. association asks for a donation for the materials (approx. 10 euros per box).
Those interested can build their own nesting boxes for birds under the expert guidance of bird conservationists, employees of the nature conservation authority and nature conservation helpers, e.g. for various species of tits such as great tits and blue tits, pied flycatchers, starlings or redstarts. The different types of boxes are presented in a nesting box exhibition.
Experts will provide information on many details about bird protection in the house, yard and garden and will be happy to answer participants' questions. Many different nesting aids and their installation options on buildings can be viewed on site at the nature conservation centre. Various knowledge stations also await visitors.
Tip: A nesting box - if you don't need it yourself - is also a nice, home-made gift.
The event is a joint project between the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency, the Saxon Ornithologists' Association and the BUND Chemnitz regional group as part of the "Young Nature Guards Chemnitz" project.
