Neefestraße bridge construction project ends on 31 August

The repair work on the Neefestraße bridge will end on Friday, 31 August, meaning that Neefestraße will be open to unrestricted traffic again from 1 September. The originally scheduled completion date of 23 August cannot be met, as damage to bridge areas came to light during the construction work that was not visible before the work began.

The damage affects the concrete layer of the bridge between the road surface and the bridge deck. In some places, the material is no longer in a sufficiently strong condition, meaning that the entire concrete layer has to be replaced. The damaged concrete is removed using a special process (high-pressure water jetting) and a new layer is then applied.

After the concrete has been refurbished, the road asphalt is then applied. In this context, reference is made to the curing times required by the technology. During this time, there may be little or no construction activity on site.

The closure of the access road to Neefepark from Neefestraße in the direction of land, which is necessary for asphalting, is expected to take place from 28.08. to 30.08.2012. A separate press release and information for residents will be issued in good time by the traffic authority in the civil engineering department.
