"Necessity is the mother of invention."

Book presentation on the history of industry in the Chemnitz-Zwickau region

On 11 May 2016 at 6 pm, publisher Dr Andreas Eichler from Niederfrohna will be presenting the book "Not macht erfinderisch." (Necessity is the mother of invention) together with the authors Klaus Dietz, Irmgard Eberth and Hermann Friedrich at the City Archive, Aue 16. In the book, the authors deal with the history of industry in the Chemnitz-Zwickau region around 1945, 1990 and 2015. The book presentation is part of the series "Das Stadtarchiv präsentiert". Admission is free.

Klaus Dietz, Irmgard Eberth and Hermann Friedrich examine the fates of individual companies in the region. They will present companies that were inextricably linked to everyday life in the GDR and whose products were probably available in almost every household. These include DKK Scharfenstein and VEB Feinwäsche "Bruno Freytag" Limbach-Oberfrohna as well as HELIRADIO Limbach-Oberfrohna. The volume also presents other companies such as Sternradio Rochlitz and Dampfkesselbau Meerane. The companies presented were either part of combines or former private companies that were nationalised in 1972. Only around 20% of them still exist today, which clearly shows the reorganisation process that the Chemnitz-Zwickau industrial region underwent after 1990.
