Natural History Museum presents unique find
Invitation to the press conference: 28 July, 11.30 a.m., Museum für Naturkunde, TIETZ
On Thursday 28 July at 11.30 a.m., Mayor Ralph Burghart and Dr Ronny Rößler, Director of the Chemnitz Museum of Natural History, will present an outstanding find from the Chemnitz Petrified Forest. Its significance and rarity far exceeds that of the prehistoric creatures found in Chemnitz to date.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to the special exhibition room of the Museum of Natural History, TIETZ, Moritzstraße 20.
In addition to Ralph Burghart and Dr Ronny Rößler, Dr Thorid Zierold, Deputy Director and Curator of Natural Sciences at the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz, will be available to answer questions. The press conference will be followed by an opportunity to take photos.
There are numerous palaeontological treasures among the finds in the Chemnitz Petrified Forest. Their exact significance can usually only be assessed in the course of many years of analysis. For example, giant arthropods and prehistoric dinosaurs were surprised by a volcanic eruption 291 million years ago, covered in ash and trapped in the Petrified Forest along with many other prehistoric plants and animals.
Today they are part of the permanent exhibition at the Chemnitz Museum of Natural History. Now this is being supplemented by another important find.
