Nationwide study confirms the attractiveness of Chemnitz city centre
According to a new study, Chemnitz city centre is attractive and has above-average footfall. The Institute for Retail Research (IFH) Cologne conducted the study in 111 cities in Germany and examined the attractiveness of Chemnitz city centre from a customer perspective.
The results show that Chemnitz city centre was rated above average compared to other cities of a similar size. Retail in particular remains the most important reason for visiting the city centre. Around two thirds of respondents cited this as the main reason for their visit. Compared to 2018, the attractiveness of the city centre rose from 2.8 to 2.2.
"It is particularly pleasing that the ratings for catering and retail offerings have improved significantly," says Bert Rothe, Head of Location Development at the Chemnitz Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
According to the Chemnitz City Working Group, the study also shows potential for visitors to the city of Chemnitz as well as for the length of stay and tourism aspects. Good parking facilities and general safety when visiting the city centre remain important elements for visitors.
"We are delighted that Chemnitz city centre was rated so highly. The efforts of all city centre stakeholders are also paying off in the eyes of customers," emphasises Rene Glaser, Managing Director of the Saxony Retail Association. "With the results of the study, we will continue to work with the stakeholders to make the city centre even more attractive and attract more visitors," says Sylvia Stölzel from the City of Chemnitz's business division.
