Nationwide network meeting of the European Mobility Week in Chemnitz
Pop-up cycle path for everyone on 10 November on Theaterstraße
On Friday, 10 November, from 10 am to 12.30 pm, a lane of Theaterstraße (between Pinguinen and Bierbrücke) will be transformed into a temporary cycle lane together with artist Norbert Krause. The campaign is intended to symbolically demonstrate how pop-up cycle lanes can be used to create a good and safe cycling infrastructure by 2025.
Everyone in Chemnitz is invited to experience this type of cycling promotion in practice and realise the benefits for themselves. The campaign is a highlight of this year's European Mobility Week (EMW) network meeting in Chemnitz.
Martin Reinhold, Head of the City of Chemnitz's Transport and Civil Engineering Department, will open the temporary cycle path at around 11am. The participants of the network meeting will display poetry along the cycle lane and hand out popcorn to coincide with the pop-up campaign.
From 11 a.m. to 11.45 a.m., the participating cyclists will be counted at a counting station. Representatives of the media are invited to attend.
Chemnitz is hosting this year's European Mobility Week (EMW) network meeting. On 9 and 10 November, the Federal Environment Agency and the City of Chemnitz are inviting all municipalities and other EMW stakeholders to the European Capital of Culture 2025 to change their own perspective: Which population group has which mobility needs and how can these be successfully realised? How can municipalities promote and support these needs? These questions will be analysed and discussed at the network meeting with many interested EMW stakeholders from all over Germany. Mayor Michael Stötzer will open the meeting.
This year's network meeting will focus on a change of perspective, which will be emphasised by the visit of blind influencer Dana Schray from Chemnitz. Her special view of the urban mobility infrastructure encourages a rethink and opens up new perspectives. She allows participants to see their world through her eyes and at the same time sensitises them to the issue of accessibility.
The network meeting begins on Thursday, 9 November at 1 p.m. and ends on Friday, 10 November with an optional bicycle excursion in the afternoon.
