Nationwide Library Network Action Week around the "Day of Libraries"
Launch of the Filmfriend streaming service, discount campaign, author reading and creative afternoon
24 October is the International Day of Libraries. Traditionally, the nationwide Netzwerk Bibliothek campaign initiated by the German Library Association begins. During this period, Chemnitz City Library is launching a new online service and numerous interesting offers.
Annual pass discount campaign: Visitors to all Chemnitz City Library facilities who register or activate their library card from 22 to 27 October will receive a 20 percent discount on the annual fee.
Filmfriend streaming service launches: On 29 October, the streaming service filmfriend will be activated for library users. Chemnitz City Library is the first library in Saxony to offer this service. The film portal offers access to more than 1,500 titles. The film catalogue ranges from German films to successful international arthouse cinema titles, TV and cinema documentaries, mainstream titles, children's films and series. Filmfriend is available to cinema fans around the clock. There are no additional costs for library customers for the new service.
Author readings: On 25 October, 5pm, Chemnitz author Helga Gaertner will be reading stories and poems that life and her imagination have thrown at her at the district library in the Yorck area under the title "Criminal Flotsam and Jetsam".
On 30 October, 3 p.m., Chemnitz author Klaus Herbert will tell the story of the wondrous world of retiree Dietze, who unexpectedly becomes the interim managing director of his former company, at the district library in Einsiedel.
On 1 November at 7 p.m., Leipzig author Bettina Wilpert will present her novel "Nichts, was uns passiert" at the Central Library in the TIETZ. Wilpert received the ZDF "aspekte" literature prize for the best literary debut of 2018.
Admission to the readings is free.
Makerspace meets Paperspace: The creative afternoon for the whole family on 3 November from 2 to 6 p.m. offers inspiration to design beautiful things yourself. At the Makerspace, you can learn about 3D printing technology, try out technical craft kits and soldering kits and repair broken items and devices yourself. The Paperspace is all about books, paper and pixels. For the first time, this series will focus on new digital reading formats for children. Admission is free.
