National "Jugend musiziert" competition with pupils from the municipal music school
Online teaching to be continued and expanded
The 58th national competition "Jugend musiziert" will take place from 20 to 26 May 2021 in Bremen and Bremerhaven. Seven girls and boys from Chemnitz Municipal Music School have qualified for the highest level of this competition. As participation is only possible online this year, they submitted videos.
Music students Christiane (piano) and Matthias (cello) have qualified in the piano and string instrument category - under the currently difficult conditions, i.e. without direct contact with the teachers. With the students Daniel (piano) and Heinrich (violoncello), a second duo will be competing in this category. Pupil Tobias (bassoon) was accompanied by his father on the piano for the competition. Pupils Karolin (voice) and Nanette (piano) qualified in the duo art song category.
The recordings for the competition were made in the concert hall of the music school in compliance with the applicable Corona rules. The video was not allowed to exceed a certain size, and lighting and sound quality also had to be taken into account.
Online lessons to be continued and expanded
Since 26 April, the Municipal Music School has had to close again for private lessons. The teachers are offering online lessons again. The Municipal Music School has formed a small 'future team' for this purpose. On the one hand, this team will offer digital counselling for teachers from next week: Questions about cameras, microphones and settings will be answered and pedagogical and organisational tips for lessons will be provided. The team is also developing a concept for online theory lessons, which is already being trialled with some students. The option of attending theory lessons online is to be retained and expanded.

In the areas of elementary music education and dance - where group lessons are the norm - the teachers have also found ways to continue these programmes. They create videos of various lessons and hands-on activities, which are then sent to parents.
