National "Jugend musiziert" competition with Chemnitz participation

Five pupils travel to Lübeck

The national "Jugend musiziert" competition starts in Lübeck on Thursday 16 May. Five pupils from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School have qualified in the guitar, piano duo, clarinet and oboe categories.

The national competition is the 190th "Jugend musiziert" competition each year, as it is preceded by 170 regional and 16 state competitions as well as the qualifying rounds in three regions of the German schools abroad. It has been clear since the end of March: in 1,380 auditions, more than 2,700 participants in 24 categories will perform for around 100 members of the respective juries at the grand finale from 16 to 22 May in Lübeck.

The German Music Council (DMR) has been organising the "Jugend musiziert" national competition in different federal states every year since 1964. The national competition challenges and promotes the best young talents and, in cooperation with long-standing partners, places outstanding prizewinners at festivals, masterclasses, international music competitions and other follow-up funding programmes after the national competition.
