Musical reading with Lothar Becker
City Library: Book presentation on 9 February, 7 pm, Stefan-Heym-Forum, TIETZ
On Thursday, 9 February at 7 pm, interested parties are invited to a musical reading with Lothar Becker at the Stefan Heym Forum in the TIETZ. The author and musician from Limbach-Oberfrohna will be presenting his novel "Als Großvater im Jahr 1927 mit einer Bombe in den Dorfbach springen, um die Weltrevolution in Gang zu Gang setzen" (When Grandfather Jumped into the Village Stream with a Bomb to Set the World Revolution in Motion), reading from it and playing his own songs.
Lothar Becker's lovingly grotesque novel is an ironic reckoning with ideologies and world views and the expectations of salvation associated with them.

Granddad would actually have preferred to ban stupidity by decree. But his friend Herbert, who slaughters the chickens in the village and, like him, has rather accidentally joined the Communist Party, has a different idea of how to set the world revolution in motion: with a bomb in a ruling class power centre, of course!
After an initial attack on an innocent town hall staircase in the neighbouring town does not quite achieve the desired success, he flees to Vienna with his new girlfriend Else and falls into the clutches of Comrade Schmidt and Comrade Olga, who demand far greater proof of his loyalty to the party: He is to blow up St Stephen's Cathedral.
The author:
Lothar Becker, born in 1959, has published numerous short stories and novels. Most recently, his novel "Bubble Gum 69" about a childhood in a small East German town was published by Eulenspiegel Verlag in 2016. In 2006, he was one of the finalists in the MDR literature competition. He also writes and composes musicals.
Becker lives in Limbach-Oberfrohna and works as a social pedagogue in an open youth centre.
