Municipal music school inaugurates new concert hall: Celebration week from 26 September to 2 October 2015

In addition to the music school, the music school extension will also be available as a venue for the city's cultural organisations. Mayor Barbara Ludwig, Building Mayor Michael Stötzer and Music School Director Nancy Gibson will be available to answer any questions during the tour.

The festive week will kick off with the opening concert on 26 September 2015 for invited guests, including Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, representatives of the city council factions as well as artists and cultural professionals.

Opening event for invited guests

It will take place on 26 September at 6 pm in the music school's new venue at Gerichtsstraße 1. Around 150 guests will be welcomed at around 5.30 pm at the entrance to the building by the alphorn duo Mathis Stendike and Jakob Hähnlein. Later, a solemn "Intrada" from the gallery of the concert hall welcomes those present. This is followed by 30 children's voices united in the song "Ich lieb' den Frühling". The piece was rehearsed in the "Early Musical Education" programme. In these courses, teachers awaken a love of music and music-making in even the very youngest children. Music school director Nancy Gibson will not only thank the city for giving its citizens this venue, but also the many supporters, partners and, last but not least, the companies involved in building the architecturally successful complex. Mayor Barbara Ludwig and Maria Elisabeth Winter from the Federal and State Parents' Representation of the Association of German Music Schools will also give welcoming speeches.

The first concert in the new hall is a musical programme designed by all departments, including well-known melodies such as "La Cucaracha" played by the "Flitzebogen Orchester" and classical music, including Bach variations by Jeremia Zeschke, trumpet, and Josua Zeschke, piano - both are 2015 state prize winners in the "Jugend musiziert" competition. Jonathan Fröhlich, cello, and Annegret Neumann, piano, will perform Robert Schumann's "Fantasiestücke" Op. 73, while Lily Höfling, 2nd state winner of "Jugend musiziert", will play "Blue Tarantella" by James Rae on her clarinet.

The "Streichhölzer" will play pieces for string orchestra by Béla Bartok and the choirs of the music school have rehearsed a medley from Mozart's "Magic Flute" for the concert.

The "Jugend musiziert" national prizewinners Katharina Stettinius and Jonas Otte will perform Antonin Dvorak's "Slavonic Dance" Op. 46 No. 2 for four hands on the piano. The plucked string orchestra and the music school's youth symphony orchestra will also perform. And soloist Marvin Uhlig will play a "Russian Gypsy Song" on the flute, accompanied on the piano by Tatjana Funk.

For a good cause

On 27 September at 5 p.m., the Municipal Music School invites you to a charity concert to support talented musicians. The concert will feature chamber music for violin and piano by Johann Sebastian Bach and César Franck, among others.

Michael Fröhlich, a successful music teacher of many years, and Andreas Weber, 2nd violinist of the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra, who conducts the Flitzebogen Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra at the music school, will perform on the piano.

Trumpet or flute?

28 September at 5 pm at the music school during a "hands-on rehearsal". Music teacher Sylvia Steinbrecher and her youth wind orchestra "YOUBLO" from the municipal music school invite you to play along, listen and try out instruments.

Overcoming boundaries with music

This is the theme of the "Musikschule EXTRA" concert in the music school hall

on 29 September at 5 pm. Members of the "DA CAPO", "Motus" and "Klangwege ins Leben" projects as well as musicians from the school for the blind with their cellos and the teachers' quartet and the adult orchestra will be performing together.

For all of them, music is the magic word for joie de vivre, regardless of whether they are the senior citizens from "DA CAPO" or the members of the music school's integrative band project "Motus", in which both mentally and physically disabled pupils take part. Through music, they discover new and old skills, strengths and inclinations that they are often not (or no longer) aware of.

Practice makes perfect...

The youngest pupils of the "Early Musical Education" programme will be performing at the "Four Seasons" concert on 30 September at 4.30 pm at the music school. The vision of experiencing the universal language of music from an early age is practised here in the community. The importance of early music education has long been scientifically proven. This is why the music school programme continues right through to pre-school age.

"DA CAPO" special edition

There will be a special edition of the "DA CAPO" music café with guests Tom Bitterlich and Ida Müller on 1 October at 3 pm in the music school's new hall.

Thank you for construction workers & rock and pop for all

For the employees of the companies involved in the construction of the new building, the music school is organising a "thank you party" with contemporary rock, pop and jazz on 1 October at 6 pm. All those who do not belong to this group of people will not be deprived of such a party.

They are invited to a rock-pop-jazz concert open to all on 2 October at 6 pm in the music school hall. Of course, you can also take the opportunity to take a look at other newly created rehearsal rooms.
