Free State of Saxony hands over investment plans to municipalities
This morning, the confirmed investment plans for the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act were handed over to the municipalities in Dresden. This clears the way for the municipalities and districts to apply for funding from the Sächsische Aufbaubank.
The city of Chemnitz has proposed new construction and refurbishment measures totalling 84 million euros for funding. The city is expected to receive 63 million euros in funding for this. The remaining 21 million euros will be financed from the city's own funds.
City Treasurer Sven Schulze, who received the confirmed investment plans from Environment Minister Thomas Schmidt in Dresden, is now counting on the swift realisation of the projects: "The Free State's funding programme is very demanding in terms of time. The city will therefore submit the funding applications as quickly as possible. The procedure to date has been largely unbureaucratic. I hope that the Sächsische Aufbaubank will also process the applications quickly so that the planned projects can be completed on time by 2020."
The city council confirmed the proposals in June. The projects to be completed by 2020 include the construction of a new secondary school on Richard-Hartmann-Platz for 20 million euros, a daycare centre for children with 150 places for 5 million euros, the construction of a new swimming pool and sports centre for 5 million euros, and the construction of a new swimming pool. A new swimming complex with a 25-metre hall and outdoor area for 13.1 million euros and the relocation of the rehearsal stages and warehouse to the city centre as part of the implementation of the theatre concept for 12 million euros. In addition, investments of 13.3 million euros are planned for road and bridge construction, including the redesign of Theaterstrasse and Brückenstrasse for 10 million euros and the repair of the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Bridge (Kaßberg approach) for 2.4 million euros.
