Motorway 72 exit coming from Hof will be closed
Next construction phase for the renovation of Neefestraße
From 4 to 25 August, the motorway exit of the A72 coming from Hof in the direction of the city centre will be closed. The reason for this is the next section of the Neefestraße redevelopment, in which the carriageway towards the city centre between the A72 and the Neefestraße bridge over the Neefepark road will be renewed and a temporary access road to the Neefepark will be created.
A large-scale bypass using other motorway junctions is recommended. The immediate diversion will be signposted via the cloverleaf of the A72 junction Chemnitz-Süd, i.e. road users coming from the direction of Hof will take the exit towards Oberlungwitz, then the slip road towards Hof and finally the exit towards the city centre (see attached overview).
The diversion towards the city centre on Neefestraße coming from Grüna and Mittelbach will continue to be via Zwickauer Straße. The traffic routing in the area of Tuchschererstraße will also remain the same. Traffic coming from Grüna will be routed via Hohensteiner Straße to Zwickauer Straße until 18 August due to the construction of a long-distance water pipeline.
The central reservation crossings in Neefestraße between the A 72 motorway and the Südring are currently being constructed and the construction area under the Neefestraße bridge is being cleared. These measures are the prerequisite for the individual projects of the overall Neefestraße project.
These are
- Replacement construction of the Neefestraße bridge over the Im Neefepark road,
- Extension of the one-way lane from Neefepark to Neefestraße in the direction of the city centre and
- road renewal on Neefestraße between the A72 motorway and Südring in both directions.
This important and heavily used traffic infrastructure will be repaired and renewed, traffic safety will be improved and accessibility will be increased by extending the Pasteurstraße stop, among other things. In order to ensure that all individual measures can be carried out without disruption, 15 different phases of traffic management will be set up over the entire construction period. Information will be provided on an ongoing basis and diversions will be signposted.
The company Hoch- und Tiefbau Reichenbach GmbH has been commissioned to carry out the work on the overall Neefestraße project. The construction volume amounts to around 9.7 million euros. The work should be completed by the end of November 2024, in time for the Capital of Culture year in Chemnitz.
The project is being subsidised by the Free State of Saxony to the tune of around 5.7 million euros, as this is a measure of particular interest to the state.
