Mother's Day tours in the zoo

Youngest offspring to be seen with the Capybaras

On Sunday, 13 May, special guided tours on the subject of "Animal mothers and children" for all mothers and grandmothers (including their families) will start at 11.30 am, 1 pm and 2.30 pm. The meeting point is at the lion enclosure in the entrance area. Participation in the guided tour is free of charge. Registration is requested: by telephone on 0371 850028 or by e-mail to tierpark(at)stadt-chemnitz.de

Are there really "raven mums" among animals? And can we even learn something from some animal species? These and other exciting questions are answered during the guided tours.

You can also observe young animals and their mothers (and fathers) in some animal species, e.g. the Bactrian camels, pygmy goats, kangaroos and Bernier's ducks in the tropical house.

There is also a new mum among the capybaras. The offspring was born in the South America enclosure on 3 May.

The mother, born in 2014, came to the Chemnitz zoo from Vienna three years ago. The father, born in 2011, moved from Schwerin to Chemnitz in 2014. Both have already reared young animals several times.
