More tree felling
Two measures required
There is a plantation of Canadian poplars between the industrial estate on Blankenburgstraße and a residential property in the area of the neighbouring roads "Glücksberg" and "Zu den Pappeln". The trees were planted around 50 years ago as a large stand with the aim of creating a quick visual barrier to agricultural land. Following property reorganisations and the associated construction of private homes, this poplar forest was felled in 2010 except for the row of poplars still standing.
During regular inspections of the remaining trees, a massive deterioration in the vitality of the trees has been observed for some time. The trees also show only one-sided crown development due to the former forest-like growth. In addition, sunburn-induced bark damage with signs of dieback in the upper parts of the crown can be observed.
In order to ensure road safety, the decision was made to fell the trees as a matter of urgency. All tree maintenance measures in terms of the duty to ensure road safety are legally permissible and do not constitute an offence under §39 BNatSchG or §25 SächsNatSchg.
Tree felling in connection with the Wittgensdorfer Straße construction project in the section from Auerswalder Straße to Paul-Fischer-Weg
Wittgensdorfer Straße is to be fundamentally expanded as part of the pipeline construction work for drinking water, gas and wastewater. Execution is planned for 2016. As a preliminary measure and in accordance with the Nature Conservation Act, the necessary tree felling is to be carried out in 2015 as part of the site clearance work.
To realise this project, seven trees located directly next to the roadway will have to be felled. These trees cannot be preserved in order to create a proper clearance profile. Compensation for the felled trees will be provided by the Parks Department.
The felling will take place between the 46th and 47th calendar week of 2015. The land on which the tree felling is planned is owned by the city. Nature conservation issues will not be affected as the trees will be felled between 1 October and 28 February.
