More than two million euros for the independent cultural scene
Cultural funding 2015 decided - administrative proposal for additional cultural area funding presented
More than two million euros for the independent cultural scene: at its meeting this afternoon, the Culture Committee confirmed the institutional and project-related cultural funding for 2015. A total of 2.01 million euros will flow into 84 institutions, associations and projects in the fields of museum work, performing arts, music, visual and applied arts, film, literature, socio-culture, local history and customs, youth culture and individual projects. The list was discussed extensively with the cultural advisory board before the decision was made.
Among others, the Saxon Railway Museum site with the two supporting associations, the Games Museum and the Vehicle Museum, the Mozart Society, the Chemnitz Jazz Club, the Saxon Symphony Orchestra, the Neue Chemnitzer Kunsthütte, the "Begehungen" festival, the film workshop, the FACT women's association, the Oscar e.V. and Ufer e.V. associations, the Kraftwerk, benten e. V., Arthur e.V., the Grüna carving association as operator of the Folklorehof, Radio T, the Bandbüro, the network for cultural and youth work, the Days of Jewish Culture and numerous smaller projects and associations. The measures supported also include, for example, the Sächsische Kinder- und Jugendfilmdienst e. V., which is organising the 20th edition of the international children's film festival "Schlingel" this year, and the Spinnerei e. V. association, with the "Fête de la Musique" project, which takes place in over 500 cities worldwide and can now be experienced for the first time in Chemnitz on 21 June.
The administration has also proposed to the committee how the announced additional cultural area funds should be spent. More than 660,000 euros are to be made available for the Chemnitz cultural area from the Free State budget, which is to be adopted at the end of April. Up to now, this has totalled around eleven million euros. The administration proposes that half of this amount be allocated to the municipal theatres in accordance with the agreed theatre compromise. Most of the remaining sum is to be channelled into independent culture, including funds for the two supporting associations of the Weltecho. The Culture Committee has instructed the administration to prepare a corresponding proposal.
