Two planters with copper rock pears have already been in place in Innere Klosterstraße since the end of November 2013. At the suggestion of local traders, similar planters made of Corten steel, planted with copper rock pears as multi-stemmed solitary trees, are now to be installed at a further 14 locations to green the city centre.

A further six planters are planned in Innere Klosterstraße and eight planters in Webergasse. Direct planting in the ground is not possible due to the large number of cables. The locations were determined as part of a study by the Chemnitz planning office sLandArt.

The construction and planting services were awarded to Fachcenter Garten + STL-Bau GmbH from Hauptmannsgrün, a company experienced in landscaping, following a call for tenders. The planters are to be installed from midday today. If the weather is favourable, planting of the containers will begin tomorrow.

In total, the city of Chemnitz is investing around 28,000 euros for eight locations for these greening services to enhance the city centre. A further 19,000 euros will be provided by GGG for six locations.
