More distance: bike racks in the city centre are being moved
On Monday, 8 April, employees of the building yard will begin to move the bicycle racks in the city centre so that they are at a greater distance from each other. Specifically, this involves the parking facilities on Straße der Nationen, Johannisplatz and Stadthallenpark.
In order not to hinder the work, cyclists are asked not to lock their bikes to the affected bike racks. Appropriate signs will be posted on site on the day of the construction work. The construction work will be completed in calendar week 20 at the latest.
Suitable parking facilities are required to securely lock bicycles. In Chemnitz, bicycle racks are used as standard in public spaces. Effective utilisation will only be possible if these facilities can be used on both sides and two bikes can be parked on each rack.
In the past, the existing facilities were too narrow. This will be corrected with this construction project. Individual bollards will be removed and, if the structural subsoil allows it, re-positioned in the immediate neighbourhood with more space between them.
