Two new art exhibitions in the cultural theme year

Since autumn 2014 and until the end of this year, Chemnitz institutions and cultural institutions have been offering a programme of events as part of the cultural theme year MODERNITY IN CHEMNITZ - ART AND ARCHITECTURE, which focuses on the different aspects of modernity as an era and modernity in art and architecture.

Two new art exhibitions of the cultural theme year will start in September and October 2015:

"Time is of the essence" from 15 September to 29 November 2015

The exhibition explores the question of how time becomes visible and tangible in pictorial works. Beyond the passage of seconds, its duration is perceived in very different ways. Eight artistic positions explore the dependence and intensity of this experience on spatial expansion, on the motifs of their narratives, on allusions and promises and the mobilisation of the viewer's powers of imagination. Installations, projections, drawings and videos by Roland Boden, Frank Bölter, Ivan Kafka, Takehito Koganezawa, Ulrich Polster, Juliane Schmidt, Marie Lynn Speckert and Hael Yxxs.

Opening on 15 September, 19:30 in the Neue Sächsische Galerie:

Live realisation of the video loop "Das Ende vom Lied" by Juliane Schmidt in the version for string quartet.

"KAM // Kunst Architektur Moderne" from 20 October to 20 November 2015

In creative, fictitious planning games, specific places in Chemnitz are mentally recreated, existing typical buildings are changed or utopian cityscapes are recreated under artistic aspects. The exhibition shows the results of the work as well as works relating to various calls for proposals for KUNST AM BAU.
