Modernisation of city lighting decided
At its meeting today, the city council decided to gradually convert the city lighting to modern LED technology. This is in line with technical progress and overall economic efficiency.
Over the next two years, all new street lighting and new replacements will be gradually converted to LED lighting. This affects standard luminaires with a mast height of seven metres. This does not include listed gas lighting systems. By 2018, 800 to 1,000 lights a year are to be equipped with the modern technology. The project is being financed with funds from the city treasury.
In 2018, the technical and economic conditions will be reviewed again and the light sources will be adapted to technical developments.
The modernisation will not incur any additional costs. The energy savings from the LED technology will reduce the burden on the municipal budget. Savings of 25,000 euros per year are expected.
