Model for luminaires in Schloßchemnitz has been finalised
Around 1800 people took part in the online vote
The online vote on the lamp model to be used when replacing the old gas lanterns in the Salzstraße/Waldleite area in the Schloßchemnitz district has come to an end with a clear vote. The majority of residents and interested parties voted in favour of luminaire model 1 (attached), which blends in perfectly with the streetscape. The winning model is expected to be installed in the first half of 2024.
The vote took place in the City of Chemnitz's participation portal over a period of just over a month, from 4 December 2023 to 14 January 2024, with participants able to vote on four different models. A total of 1,792 people took part, with Model 1 emerging as the winner with 44.1 per cent of the votes cast.

Background:
Just 100 years ago, lighting German city centres with gas lanterns was the state of the art and common practice. With today's state of the art technology, however, lighting with gas as an energy source is considered to be very ineffective in terms of energy as well as maintenance and cost-intensive. For this reason, the conservation authorities of the Free State of Saxony and the City of Chemnitz, eins/inetz and the City of Chemnitz Transport and Civil Engineering Department agreed to replace the gas lighting in selected areas. It was agreed that the replacement of the listed gas lanterns can be carried out in a manner appropriate to the listed building, taking into account the reasonableness in terms of economic efficiency, climatic and structural specifications, i.e. 121 of the 320 existing gas lanterns in Chemnitz may be successively replaced between 2023 and 2025.
