Mobile for Tolerance" reading project - with Lissa Lehmenkühler
Berlin children's book author reads in primary schools on 11 and 12 July
On Monday and Tuesday, 11 and 12 July, Berlin author Lissa Lehmenkühler will be giving readings at four primary schools in Chemnitz. She will be reading from her book "Meta Motte. Flatterstark. Ich bin, wie ich bin" (Arena Verlag) and will talk about it with the children afterwards.
The book is about the little moth Meta, who has just hatched from her cocoon and finds that her wings are not colourful like those of her butterfly friends, but grey. Sadly, she sets off to collect colour for her wings and discovers how diverse different animals and their colours are. The book raises awareness of tolerance with others, but also with oneself, gives the young listeners the self-confidence to accept themselves as they are and opens their eyes to diverse and colourful ways of life.
After the reading, the children can share their own experiences on the topic and exchange ideas with Lissa Lehmenkühler in a discussion round.
This is the fourth time that Chemnitz City Library has brought the library to primary schools in Chemnitz with "Mobile for Tolerance". This is a project of the Chemnitz City Library Friends' Association and is funded by the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz of the City of Chemnitz (LAP). The aim of the campaign is to reach children outside the catchment area of Chemnitz City Library.
