This year's MINT Fit Camp organised by the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation will take place from Monday to Friday, 16 to 20 February. The MINT Fit Camp is aimed specifically at primary school pupils and offers a week full of science and technology with experiments, sport and fun.
On Thursday, 19 February, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., representatives of the media are invited to a special part of the camp programme at the school hostel, Küchwaldring 26:
In the workshop "Stop Motion - My First Own Film", the children will develop their own stories, create characters and learn step by step how to create an animated short film from many individual images. The Chemnitzer Filmwerkstatt e. V. not only teaches technical know-how, but also shows how closely creativity, media education and STEM skills are linked.
To gain an insight into the project on site, it is possible to talk to the children, carers and media educators from Chemnitzer Filmwerkstatt e. V..
The week of the MINT-Fit-Camp will also include other exciting programme items. Among other things, the questions will be explored: How do sport and maths come together? How exactly does buoyancy work when swimming? Which path does the water actually take before it ends up in the bottle? A visit to the Chemnitz Industrial Museum is also planned.
The aim of the camp is to introduce children to different educational programmes and arouse their curiosity about scientific topics. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation
The "Johanneum" Children and Youth Foundation has a long history: it was initiated by Carl Christian Hübner back in 1855 to open up opportunities for children from socially disadvantaged families. When it was re-established in 2002, it became the first legally independent municipal foundation in the city of Chemnitz.
The foundation supports numerous projects, including the Johanneum Academy. Among other things, it offers socially disadvantaged children educational opportunities, sports and creative activities during the holidays.
The foundation can be supported with donations and endowments in order to continue to provide effective help.
