Michaelstraße daycare centre reopens
Inauguration ceremony and handover of the nameplates on 9 June, 2 p.m.
On Friday, 9 June at 2 pm, the completely renovated building of the two daycare centres (House I and House II) at Michaelstraße 58 will be ceremoniously reopened. Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky will present the children with the new entrance signs for the two facilities, which will be given new names on this day.
After a short musical programme, the children, parents and guests are invited to view the building and the outdoor area.
Representatives of the media are also cordially invited to attend.
(Note for photo/image journalists: Please ask parents for their permission to take photos of children on site. There is no general photo authorisation).
On Children's Day, 1 June, the children moved back into their daycare centres and took possession of them. The interior of the building was completely renovated and the garden redesigned over a construction period of more than two years.
The building, which is more than 40 years old, underwent a complete interior refurbishment with remediation of contaminated sites, as pollutants had been found in the roof covering and in the screed of the rooms.
From summer 2021 to spring 2022, the entire roof was renewed and the screed in all rooms was removed up to the bare ceiling, and all surfaces were sampled and cleaned under the supervision of the state directorate. This postponed the extension by around eight months.
The building also received new sanitary facilities, new flooring and sound insulation and was largely fitted with new furniture.
A solar system was installed on the roof to ensure the daycare centre's energy supply. Surplus energy is fed into the public power grid.
New play equipment was installed outside, such as a climbing tower in the crèche area and a football pitch.
The renovation of the building began in April 2021 and was completed on 31 May 2023. The costs for this amount to around 2.6 million euros.
Work to redesign the outdoor facilities began in October 2022 and will continue until the end of November 2023. The costs for this amount to around 606,000 euros.
The building at Michaelstraße 58 houses two daycare centres with separate operating licences and separate entrances. House I looks after 88 children, of which 28 are crèche places with four integration places. House II is attended by 86 children, 28 of whom are crèche children with four integration places.
The daycare centres were relocated from April 2021 to May 2023: House I to Johannes-Dick-Straße 55, House II to Alfred-Neubert-Straße 22.
