On Wednesday, 19 November, from 10 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., Franziska Herold, the municipal equal opportunities officer for the city of Chemnitz, invites you to International Men's Day at Schauplatz Eisenbahn, Frankenberger Straße 172, under the motto "Men on the train!".
The event is dedicated to topics that affect men today - from role models and mental health to family life and partnership. For better planning, please register by e-mail to gleichstellungsstelle(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
Visitors can expect a varied programme with talks, workshops, hands-on activities and exercise options. The aim is to get people talking about social expectations, health and identity - and to have a good time together in the process. Programme highlights include a performance by Instagrammer Patrick van Lier (Feministo_explains), a talk by the Men's Network Dresden on mental health, Qi Gong for adults and children and guided tours of the railway venue.
Throughout the day, there will also be hands-on stations, a photo box, craft activities for children, information stands from clubs and associations and the film screening "Junge sein. Becoming a man." by the Wuppertal media project.
Franziska Herold: "Equality only works if all people are considered. Men also face specific challenges - especially when it comes to changing role models. The International Men's Day offers a space to discuss these issues, exchange ideas and develop a mutual understanding for each other. The event aims to show that men's issues are not a niche topic. Social equality can only be achieved through dialogue and this dialogue should be encouraged."
Background
International Men's Day is celebrated worldwide on 19 November and is dedicated to the health, equality and appreciation of men. Unlike the popular "Men's Day" on Ascension Day, it is not about celebrating, but about social issues that affect men and families - similar to International Women's Day on 8 March.
