Memories of the "VEB Goethe" and the post-reunification period at the TU Chemnitz

Bernd Leistner, Leipzig Germanist and writer, will be reading at the TIETZ on 17 January

On Wednesday, 17 January at 6 pm, the Honorary Chairman of the Friends of the City Library, Prof. Dr Bernd Leistner, will present his new book "Im Lauf der Zeiten" (In the course of time) in the TIETZ, Central Library, Science & Technology section, ReadingRoom.

Admission costs 5 euros, concessions 3 euros.

Bernd Leistner recalls turning points in his life and work as a student, teacher, foreign lecturer, employee at the "National Research and Memorial Centres" in Weimar, the legendary "VEB Goethe" of the GDR, lecturer at the Leipzig Literature Institute, defender of unpopular literature in the East and Goethe expert in the West, visiting professor after the "reunification" and co-acting contemporary witness of the newly installed German Studies in Chemnitz. As a world traveller, he now encounters admirers of a language culture in Asia that he sees increasingly "wasted" in reunified Germany, where even students are barely able to read or understand the legacy of their forefathers, in a time that is becoming increasingly alien to him, a member of the German PEN and the Saxon Academy of Arts.
