Memorandum of understanding signed for Campus for Sport and Culture
Feasibility study planned - survey on public participation online since today
Today, Minister President Michael Kretschmer and Lord Mayor Sven Schulze signed the Letter of Intent for a campus for sport and culture between Brückenstraße and Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße.
With the letter of intent, both sides are reaffirming the agreement they concluded in 2019 to combine the interests of the Free State of Saxony in the further development of its administrative sites with the urban development interests of the City of Chemnitz. The Free State of Saxony and the City of Chemnitz largely own the land behind the so-called "Parteifalte".
Niners Chemnitz GmbH wants a modern venue that meets the current and future requirements of the German Basketball League and enables national and international match operations in the long term.
The area between Brückenstraße and Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße is an important building block in the city centre. The city of Chemnitz will be preparing a feasibility study in the coming months. This will examine whether a hall can be integrated into the area in terms of urban planning and structural engineering and whether a multifunctional hall can be realised economically in Chemnitz.
As part of this feasibility study, the opinions of Chemnitz residents on a multifunctional hall and the location in the city centre are also being sought. An online survey has been running since today and is available on the City of Chemnitz's participation portal at https://mitdenken.sachsen.de/1043954 until 8 September.
