Meeting with Eastern European cities for greenhouse gas-neutral municipalities in Chemnitz
On Wednesday and Thursday, 6 and 7 November, a networking meeting of the "Ready4NetZero" network will take place in Chemnitz. Representatives from Eastern European cities in Croatia, Hungary, Poland and Romania will take part in the meeting, which aims to promote intermunicipal dialogue.
The "Ready4NetZero" network supports small and medium-sized cities in these countries in developing and implementing local strategies to achieve climate neutrality.
The guests were officially welcomed today by Carina Kühnel, Head of the Environmental Office of the City of Chemnitz, and the energy team of the City of Chemnitz. The programme includes various presentations and workshop formats. Day two is all about practical relevance. In addition to a tour of the eins energie battery storage facility and the innovative LowEx district heating network in Brühl, the Eastern European city representatives will also visit the Fasa AG solar area on the site of the former castle brewery and the sustainable heating concept of the "Zwergenhaus" kindergarten in Stelzendorf. Cycling also receives attention: the cycle route along Schloßstraße and the Chemnitz Valley cycle path are visited.
Chemnitz continues to make progress towards becoming a greenhouse gas-neutral city. As recently as September, the European Capital of Culture 2025 was honoured with the title "Energy Municipality of the Month".

More than half of the European Union's population lives in small and medium-sized cities. Cities are therefore an important part of the transformation towards a greenhouse gas-neutral Europe.
