Meeting of the European partners of the EU project ALT/BAU
Project partners to visit Chemnitz from 3 to 4 September Invitation to the press event on 3 September, 12 noon at Lokomov
From Monday to Tuesday, 3-4 September, participants in the EU ALT/BAU project will be visiting Chemnitz. Representatives from other cities can look forward to an interesting exchange of experiences in Chemnitz, including a tour of successful new building utilisations on the Sonnenberg.
Representatives of the media will have the opportunity to talk to the project participants on Monday, 3 September at 12 noon at Lokomov, Augustusburger Str. 102. There will also be two photo opportunities: on Monday, 3 September 2018, 9 am at Lokomov and/or around 1.45 pm at Albertipark, Fürstenstraße/corner of Zietenstraße.
Background
The City of Chemnitz has been leading the ALT/BAU transfer network in the EU's URBACT programme since April 2018. The aim of the network is to transfer knowledge from the work of the StadtWohnen Chemnitz agency to other European cities. The city has been involved in the URBACT project "2nd Chance - Awakening Sleeping Giants" since 2016. As a partner in this European network, it worked with the owner of the former spinning mill to develop measures to revitalise the site.
AgenturStadtWohnen was presented as a good example at a meeting in Chemnitz as part of the European transfer of knowledge on the new utilisation of old buildings. The response from the partners was so positive that the agency took part in a call from the URBACT programme to submit successful practical examples of sustainable and integrated solutions. 270 cities took part in the call, and the agency was one of 97 selected to receive the "URBACT Good Practice" label: In addition to Chemnitz, Hamburg, Munich, Altena and Pforzheim also received it in Germany.
This success was followed by the city's successful application to manage a URBACT transfer network.
The first phase of the project with partners Rybnik (Poland) and Vilafranca del Penedès (Spain) is now nearing completion. This will be evaluated and discussed with new partners at the meeting in Chemnitz at the beginning of September. These come from Riga (Latvia), Seraing (Belgium), Constanta (Romania) and Turin (Italy). These are both specialist colleagues from the city administrations and employees from agencies.
