Meeting of all cultural ambassadors of the Capital of Culture application at the TIETZ

The Capital of Culture Secretariat has received more than 50 applications as cultural ambassadors to work on the Programme Council and prepare the Capital of Culture bid. Five Cultural Ambassadors will be involved in the Programme Council (see PM 286). At its last meeting, the steering group for the strategic management of the bid decided to recruit all applicants as cultural ambassadors for the Capital of Culture project, irrespective of their involvement in the Programme Council.
The large number of applications received and the support expressed in this context for the "Chemnitz 2025 - European Capital of Culture" project is overwhelming. All of the applications are bursting with ideas and show the courage and will that the applicants have to make Chemnitz the European Capital of Culture.
In order to discuss ideas for a common path to the European Capital of Culture together with all applicants, a first
meeting of all cultural ambassadors is scheduled for
Monday, 15 May 2017, 5 pm
in the TIETZ, 3rd floor, event hall
is planned.
The meeting is open to the press. Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
Egmont Elscher, member of the steering group and Chairman of the Cultural Advisory Board of the City of Chemnitz, was commissioned by the steering group to bundle the commitment of all cultural ambassadors. The Freundeskreis Chemnitz 2025 e. V. is already in the process of being founded. As a registered association, the Circle of Friends aims to support Chemnitz's bid to become European Capital of Culture with projects and activities

Explanation:
The steering group was appointed by the City Council on 8 February 2017 to strategically manage the bid. It sets content priorities, defines framework conditions and prepares further necessary city council resolutions.
The Programme Council carries out the creative work for the bid. It develops the concept for the Capital of Culture and collects ideas and proposals. It is advised on the programme work by international experts.
A Capital of Culture Secretariat was established for project management and project organisation by resolution of the City Council on 25 January 2017. During the preparation of the bid, the staff of the Capital of Culture Secretariat are responsible for administrative and controlling tasks and cultural policy work. They also develop concepts for public participation. The head of the European Capital of Culture project is Ferenc Csák, Head of Cultural Operations for the City of Chemnitz.
The European Capitals of Culture help to emphasise the richness, diversity and commonalities of Europe's cultural heritage and facilitate a better understanding of Europe's citizens for one another. The title has been awarded for one year at a time since 1985.
