Measures to increase road safety at the Zwickauer Straße/ Reichsstraße junction

On Monday, 10 October 2016, measures to increase road safety, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists, will be implemented at the Zwickauer Straße/ Reichsstraße junction.

The right-turn lane will be given its own traffic light on Zwickauer Straße in the direction of the city centre before Reichsstraße. When right-turning traffic is authorised, pedestrians and cyclists crossing Reichsstraße are given a red signal.

In the past two years, there have been an increasing number of accidents between drivers turning right from Zwickauer Straße into Reichsstraße in the direction of Annaberger Straße and cyclists using the cycle path alongside the road on Zwickauer Straße. For this reason, the accident commission has decided to guide pedestrians and cyclists safely across Reichsstraße so that the accident-related conflict no longer exists.

As part of this measure, the right of way at the junction was changed on Thursday. Zwickauer Straße is now signposted as a priority road. The current results of traffic counts and the need to give priority to trams and buses on Zwickauer Straße in the event of traffic light failure justify this measure.

Planners will inform drivers of the change in priority.

We ask all road users to pay particular attention.
