Measures for children and young people after the coronavirus pandemic
Invitation to the press conference on 19 July, 3 p.m., City Hall, Room 118
Mayor Ralph Burghart invites media representatives to a press conference on Monday, 19 July at 3 p.m. in City Hall, Room 118. Together with the Head of the Social Services Department, Cornelia Utech, and the Managing Director of the Chemnitz City Sports Association, Janette Füseler, he will present the federal government's "Catching up after Corona for children and young people" action programme, the measures planned for this in Chemnitz and their concrete implementation.
The federal government has adopted the "Catching up after coronavirus for children and young people" action programme worth two billion euros for the years 2021 and 2022. The aim is to create opportunities for all children and young people to quickly catch up on what they have missed. This applies not only to learning material, but also to social life: they are also to be supported in sports and leisure activities.
The city of Chemnitz made immediate preparations to implement this programme as quickly as possible with meaningful measures and projects. First and foremost, low-threshold offers were developed that are accessible to all children and young people during the holidays. A wide range of free sports activities (e.g. swimming courses, basketball and football tournaments, cycling tours, taster courses in various sports, etc.) will be available throughout the holiday period.
Mayor Ralph Burghart: "As a society as a whole, we have a responsibility to ensure that the challenges of prolonged restrictions during the pandemic are handled carefully for all groups of people. Every effort should be made as quickly as possible to recognise the deficits that have arisen, especially among children and young people, and to counteract the reduction with targeted measures. Now that the holiday season is just around the corner, it's all about sport, exercise and culture in leisure time. It is important to me to promote activities in the community and in the family and thus joy and exuberance."
