Mayor welcomes the carol singers from Chemnitz

At the start of a new year, a reception for the Chemnitz carol singers is a good tradition at Chemnitz town hall. The date this time is Tuesday, 8 January at 3 pm: Mayor Sven Schulze welcomes girls and boys and their carers from the Catholic parishes of Propstei, St. Josef, St. Antonius and St. Franziskus with the support of Don Bosco Haus Chemnitz in the lobby (2nd floor) of the town hall. Afterwards (3.30 pm), the carol singers will also visit the Bürgerhaus am Wall. Here they will be welcomed by Mayor Miko Runkel in the Citizens' Service Centre.
Representatives of the media and interested citizens are cordially invited to attend.
The motto of this year's carol singing campaign is "We belong together - in Peru and around the world". The 2019 carol singing campaign will showcase the commitment to children with disabilities in Peru and collect donations for them.
Part of the tradition of Epiphany carol singing is that the carol singers use songs and verses to draw attention to the world's largest campaign by children for children in need, collect money to support their campaign and sing the carol.The traditional blessing "20*C+M+B+18" (Christ bless this house) is always marked above the door of the Council Chamber on the 2nd floor of Chemnitz Town Hall. floor.
The carol singing campaign was first launched in 1959 and has since become the world's largest solidarity campaign in which children help children in need. The campaign is organised by the children's missionary organisation "Die Sternsinger" and the Federation of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ). Every year, funds from the campaign are used to support over 2,000 projects for children in need in Africa, Latin America, Asia, Oceania and Eastern Europe.
