Mayor Ralph Burghart welcomes young Czech women

Invitation to the photo session: 14 July, 4 pm, Town Hall

Ralph Burghart, Mayor for Education, Social Affairs, Youth, Culture and Sport, will welcome nine young Czechs who have completed an eight-week internship in Chemnitz companies to Chemnitz City Hall on Tuesday, 14 July at 4 pm.

After being welcomed by Mayor Ralph Burghart, Pia Sachs, the city's EU Coordinator, will take the guests on a tour of the town hall.

Representatives of the press have the opportunity to take photos and interviews with the Czech guests in front of the town hall right at the beginning.

On 1 March, nine socially disadvantaged young people from the Ústí nad Labem region came to Chemnitz. Through socio-educational support, individual mentoring and a stay abroad, combined with a specialised internship, they were to be successfully motivated to start an apprenticeship. The Dobrovolnické centrum, z.s. in Ústí nad Labem and the Verein zur Beruflichen Förderung und Ausbildung e. V. (VBFA) have been working closely together to implement the project since 2016.

The Czechs were originally supposed to spend nine weeks in Chemnitz, receive German lessons, learn together with the VBFA trainees in the workshops and then complete an internship in a partner company. The entire project was interrupted by coronavirus, but was able to continue from 1 June, albeit in a different form. The young people started their internships in the companies as soon as they returned to Chemnitz.

The project is subsidised by the European Social Fund on the Czech side.
