At the start of a new year, it is a good tradition for the Mayor of Chemnitz to receive the carol singers at Chemnitz City Hall on Markt 1. This time the event will take place in the Wandelhalle (2nd floor) on Tuesday, 7 January at 3 p.m.: Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will welcome the girls and boys and their carers from the Catholic parishes of Propstei, St. Josef, St. Antonius and St. Franziskus.
Representatives of the media and, as in previous years, interested members of the public are cordially invited to attend.
The motto of this year's 56th carol singing campaign is ""Bring a blessing, be a blessing. Hope for refugee children in Malawi and worldwide!". This year, the organisers of the campaign would like to draw particular public attention to all those children who have had to leave their homes, live as refugees and have to find their way in a foreign country.
The tradition of Epiphany singing involves the carol singers using songs and verses to draw attention to the world's largest campaign by children for children in need, collecting money to support their campaign and singing the carol.The carol singers collect money to support their campaign and mark the traditional blessing "20*C+M+B+14" (Christ bless this house) - in Chemnitz town hall, the blessing is always marked above the door of the council chamber on the 2nd floor. floor.
The carol singing campaign was first launched in 1959 and has since become the world's largest solidarity campaign in which children help children in need. The campaign is organised by the children's missionary organisation "Die Sternsinger" and the Federation of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ). Every year, funds from the campaign are used to support over 2,000 projects for children in need in Africa, Latin America, Asia, Oceania and Eastern Europe.
