Mayor Ludwig: State exhibition on industrial culture should utilise the potential of the entire industrial region - limiting it to one location would be a big mistake

The Free State of Saxony is planning to organise the 4th Saxon State Exhibition of Industrial Culture in Zwickau in 2018.

Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig comments:

"I think it would be a big mistake to implement the concept as planned now. The potential of the entire industrial region of Chemnitz is being wasted by reducing it to one location.

The concept that the Regional Convention presented to the Free State of Saxony to show the entire spectrum of Saxony's industrial history and present at several different locations offers many more opportunities to tell the history and, above all, the future of industry in an exciting way - from the tradition of mining to high technology today.

This would be much stronger and more modern than limiting the exhibition to a purely museum-like retrospective at just one location. And it would really do justice to the importance of the entire industrial region. This is all the more true because we are already presenting Saxony's industrial history in a new way with the new permanent exhibition in the Saxon Industrial Museum, which is due to open next year. That is why a state exhibition deserves a different approach.

The Free State should therefore consider whether it really wants to make the mistake of such an unnecessary restriction."
