Mayor Ludwig on the railway plans: A good sign, but the fundamental question of the connection to Leipzig remains unresolved

The Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig, comments on Deutsche Bahn's plans to run long-distance trains via Chemnitz again in the future:

"It is a good sign that the city of Chemnitz is back on the railway's radar. However, the actual implementation and the planned qualities are still uncertain. Particularly on the Saxony-Franconia main line, the question arises as to how DB AG, having only discontinued the regional express service on this route in 2014, intends to fit its new IC connections into the new operating programme on the route that has been put out to tender.

Overall, the current plan is not yet what we want and need: The fundamental question of the connection to Leipzig is still unresolved. Our first priority is Chemnitz - Leipzig, the line is still missing. All those responsible must continue to work on its inclusion in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan."
