Mayor Ludwig: No low emission zone planned in Chemnitz city centre

There are no plans for a low emission zone in Chemnitz city centre. "We agree within the administration and also with the local business community that a low emission zone is not the right way to achieve climate protection targets," explains Mayor Barbara Ludwig in view of the public speculation surrounding a possible introduction. The calculation models used by the Environment Agency to date also show that an environmental zone is not necessary in 2015. "We are doing everything necessary to keep it that way."

At the same time, the Lord Mayor clarified that there is no direct connection between the further construction of the southern ring road and the issue of the low emission zone.

The B107 as part of the southern ring road (between Augustusburger Straße and the motorway junction to the A4) is still classified as a key project of the Free State of Saxony in the new 2025 State Transport Infrastructure Plan. "We assume that the Free State will continue to honour this commitment. The administration has also been assured of this several times by representatives of the responsible authority."
