Mayor Ludwig invites residents to a meeting on the accommodation and care of asylum seekers and refugees

Mayor Barbara Ludwig will be holding a residents' meeting to provide information on the accommodation and care of refugees and asylum seekers. Chemnitz residents are invited to the Jakobikirche on Monday, 2 February at 6 pm. The event will provide information on the topic of refugees and asylum. For example, the city's accommodation and care concept will be presented, which will subsequently be adopted by the city council.
"We want to engage with citizens on this topic, provide transparent information and answer questions," says the Lord Mayor. "Acceptance comes from trust and credibility. That's why we want to listen to suggestions, ideas and comments, but also talk about possible fears and questions. It is important to me to create a high level of transparency. We are also learning here."
In addition to the city, representatives of the state directorate, which is responsible for the operation of the initial reception centre, the police and other institutions will also be present as discussion partners.
"We are a city of industry and crafts that has only become a major city thanks to immigration," said the mayor. "We have worked hard in recent years to facilitate immigration. Many companies are dependent on immigration in order to be able to fill jobs with qualified specialists. We have and need an internationally orientated university. This is only possible as a cosmopolitan city. And that also means that we are open to refugees. I want a city where everyone can live without fear."
