Mayor honours Father Christmas from Chemnitz alias Hans Lange with an entry in the city's Golden Book

A great honour for a well-known Chemnitz citizen: Mayor Barbara Ludwig honours Chemnitz Father Christmas, alias Hans Lange, for his well-known and enjoyable work over the past 21 years."Every year", the now 85-year-old Hans Lange has impressively lent his profile, voice and figure to the famous figure of the white-bearded old man in the long red coat in the run-up to Christmas in Chemnitz. Over the past 21 years, his impressive and endearing Father Christmas has been much admired by young and old alike at the traditional opening of the Chemnitz Christmas market and every evening on the big stage. Now Father Christmas Hans Lange wants to retire and has already handed over the sceptre to his successor Claus Höhne and long-time Father Christmas "assistant".
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend Hans Lange's entry in the town's Golden Book. The event will take place on Friday, 30 November 2012 at 3 pm in the Ratsstube of the Ratskeller before the official opening of this year's Christmas market.
In addition to Hans Lange and his wife, Claus Höhne, Santa's successor in the obligatory office and a frequent local presence as Father Christmas in spé in previous years, will also take part in the event to sign the town's Golden Book. The guests at the event in the Ratsstube also included five members of the Weihnachtsmärchen theatre group, who are responsible for the annual performances on the main stage of the Chemnitz Christmas market. The theatre group was founded by Hans Lange in his capacity as chairman of the Volksbühne association.
