Mayor from Timbuktu has to postpone visit to Chemnitz
The visit of the mayor of Timbuktu, Halle Ousmane, to Chemnitz has had to be postponed. Due to short-term commitments that make his presence in Timbuktu unavoidable, Ousmane had to postpone his visit announced for tomorrow until mid-April. He will then meet with Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, among others.
The programme planned for the visit will take place in April with as few changes as possible. The meeting with the Lord Mayor will be followed by a round of talks in the town hall, during which the current situation in Mali, the possibilities for further support and assistancefor the people in Chemnitz's twin city of Timbuktu and also the possibility of a school partnership between a Chemnitz school and a school in the Malian twin city.
Ousmane's visit will also include a tour of the city, various company visits and a meeting with the Timbuktu - Chemnitz twinning association.
The appeal to Chemnitz residents for donations for the twin city will also continue. Last year, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig called for donations to help 15 million African people who were threatened by famine following an extreme drought. Mali and Chemnitz's twin city Timbuktu were also affected.
