Mayor Barbara Ludwig will not be standing in the next mayoral election

After 14 years in office, the Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig, will no longer be a candidate in next summer's mayoral election.
Ludwig said today: "A strong democracy requires continuity, but also change. That is why it is time for a change at the top of the city after 14 years. After more than 20 years in public office, I would like to give more space to other things in my life when my term of office expires next year. Until then, I will continue to devote all my energy and actions to my home town."
Barbara Ludwig's second term of office expires on 12 September 2020; she has been Lord Mayor of the City of Chemnitz since 2006.
