Mayor Barbara Ludwig travels to the Czech twin town of Ústí nad Labem
Tomorrow, Thursday, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will be travelling to the Czech twin town of Ústí nad Labem. The reason is the first personal talks between her and the mayor of the twin city, Věra Nechybová. Věra Nechybová has been in office since 2015. The Chemnitz delegation, including Ferenc Csák, will also meet with the director of the city museum, Václav Houfek. A tour of the museum itself is planned. This will be followed by a visit to Střekov Castle, from where there is an impressive view of the Porta Bohemica panorama. After lunch, a visit to the Větruše viewing terrace is planned. The cable car will then take you to the OC Forum and from there via Kostelní náměstí (Church Square) to Mírové náměstí (Peace Square). In the afternoon, the two city leaders will open the exhibition "Chemnitz - cosmopolitan and colourful" by Aktion © under the direction of Gerald Richter. The return journey to Chemnitz is planned for later in the afternoon.
Information about the exhibition
5 March is the day of the destruction of Chemnitz city centre during the Second World War. For years, the people of Chemnitz have been celebrating this day as a day of peace, on which they emphasise tolerance and world peace. In a project run by the citizens' initiative Aktion ©, children and young people have been designing large posters since 2012, which are presented in the city centre on Chemnitz Peace Day. An exhibition on 24 banners provides an insight into the creation and background of the artworks and shows the growth of intercultural friendships and the commitment of the numerous helpers and supporters in impressive images. This year, a group from the twin town of Ústí nad Labem also took part in the art project.
