Mayor Barbara Ludwig congratulates General Director Ingrid Mössinger on being awarded an honorary doctorate
In an academic ceremony on Thursday evening, the Faculty of Philosophy at Chemnitz University of Technology conferred the academic title of doctor philosophiae honoris causa on Ingrid Mössinger, General Director of the Chemnitz Art Collections, in recognition of her services to art and culture.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig congratulates on the award of the honorary doctorate: "Ingrid Mössinger is characterised by a charming tenacity that has made her so successful. She works for her museums with ingenious concepts, instinct and empathy for the world as a whole. Over the years, Ingrid Mössinger has brought major, internationally sensational exhibitions to the city: Picasso et les femmes, the Peredwischniki, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Edvard Munch, Andy Warhol and many, many others. And she has managed to exhibit Bob Dylan's prints for the first time anywhere in the world - in Chemnitz. It is her work that Chemnitz is aware of its strengths as a creative, industrial, modern living space."
The result of Ingrid Mössinger's tireless work is also the Gunzenhauser Museum - alongside other exquisite foundations and collections such as the Loebermann Collection, which she brought to Chemnitz: the high-calibre collection of classical modernism has been on display in Chemnitz since 2007.

Virtuoso in dealing with her dialogue partners. Charming and winning. Patient, but determined. Worldly-wise. With an unerring instinct for unique opportunities. And the steadfastness to keep throwing herself into projects that require staying power and strength. Thanks to this combination, Ingrid Mössinger succeeds in an enchanting way in getting people excited about her ideas, art and Chemnitz," says Barbara Ludwig. "It is her unrivalled gift to create space for art. In our perception and in our lives. In the image of our city and for our self-image. On behalf of the citizens of Chemnitz and personally, I would like to say thank you. And congratulations."
Ingrid Mössinger comes from Swabia and has worked as a museum director in Chemnitz for almost 20 years. Since 2005, she has been General Director of the art collections with the Gunzenhauser Museum, the Carlfriedrich Claus Archive, the Schloßberg Museum and the Van de Velde Museum in the Villa Esche. She studied art history, archaeology, ethnology and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main and was director of the art fair "Art Frankfurt". Ingrid Mössinger organised the German presentation at the Biennale in Sydney.
Ingrid Mössinger has received numerous awards for her work and is a Knight of the French Legion of Honour, holder of the Knight's Cross of the Danish Dannebrog Order and recipient of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2010, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz were named "Museum of the Year" by the German section of the International Association of Art Critics.
