On Saturday, 7 March, from 9 am to 3 pm, children, young people, parents and grandparents are once again invited to build bird nesting boxes together at the Chemnitz Nature Conservation Station, Adelsbergstraße 192. Admission is free. A donation towards the cost of materials will be made to the Pilzfreunde Chemnitz e. V. association.
Under expert guidance, participants can build their own nesting boxes for various bird species - e.g. great tit, blue tit, starling, common redstart and black redstart. In addition, there are creative games and craft activities to join in and discover.
Many different nesting aids and their installation options on buildings can also be viewed on site. Experts will provide information on the details of bird protection in the house, yard and garden and will be happy to answer questions.
Birds have fewer and fewer opportunities to find a suitable nesting cavity - be it due to the loss of trees with breeding cavities, the renovation of buildings or new buildings made of glass without breeding opportunities. The "Max Meise" campaign aims to help create a suitable replacement for birds. At the same time, a nesting box makes it possible to observe nature up close.
"Max Meise - nesting box building for young and old" is a cooperation between the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency, the Pilzfreunde Chemnitz e. V. association and the BUND Chemnitz regional group in the "Young Nature Guards Chemnitz" programme
