Max Meise campaign - nest box building for young and old

On Saturday, 1 March, from 9 am to 3 pm, interested children and young people can once again build their own nesting boxes for birds (e.g. great tit, blue tit, starling, common redstart and black redstart) under expert guidance at the Chemnitz Nature Conservation Centre, Adelsbergstraße 192. There will also be creative play and craft activities.
A donation of ten euros for the materials will go to the Pilzfreunde Chemnitz e. V. association.

The Chemnitz nature conservation centre is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The "Max Meise - nest box building for young and old" programme has been offered there for more than 25 years.

Many different nesting aids and their installation options on buildings can be viewed on site. Experts will be on hand to provide details on bird protection in the house, yard and garden and will be happy to answer questions.

Birds have fewer and fewer opportunities to find a suitable nesting cavity, be it due to the loss of trees with nesting cavities, the renovation of buildings or new buildings made of glass without nesting opportunities. The "Max Meise" campaign aims to help birds find a suitable replacement. At the same time, a nesting box makes it possible to observe nature up close.

"Max Meise - nesting box building for young and old" is a cooperation between the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency, the Pilzfreunde Chemnitz e. V. association and the BUND Chemnitz regional group as part of the "Young Nature Guards Chemnitz" programme.
